Another Journey
Notes from the Last Dog and Pony Show
by Michael Cerveris
On the Road to Toronto, ONT
SUNDAY 20 September
Drive to Toronto. Get a little lost on the way into town.
Choose NOT to stay at another Days Inn and go for a nicer stay at the Clarion.
Phoenix is a dark, vaguely brutish place. Varnaline makes it through the border, ten
minutes before doors. Eventually good crowd, not too responsive. Do they only want the
blood?
Still very attentive and complimentary after. A guy gets up on stage, dances around a bit,
dives into the crowd - which steps aside - letting him hit the floor.... hard. Then the
security thugs get him in a headlock and pummel him. Totally unnecessary as he wasn't
resisting at all. Too much hockey in their diet.
Evening saved by great sushi on Queen St. West.
Later a club with 80's Goth and an interesting evening at the Goulash House, center of a
groovy little underground art scene.
On the Road to New Haven, CT
MONDAY 21 September
Drive to New Haven.
Non-stop Oral sex talk on the radio thanks to Kenneth Starr.
End of what little civilization was left in America.
So disgusted by it all.
Odd to be back in this town after these years.
Very little has changed.
This is one of my towns full of ghosts.
Melancholy seeps in.

Toad's Place
TUESDAY 22 September
Playing Toad's place where I used to see bands all through college. Day of laundry and
drizzle. Not the best turn out, though not bad. Crowd seems to love it. Very happy to see
a friend in the crowd.
Late night hanging out in West Haven motel......Denny's to go, beers from the rider and
Bushmills....what could be better?
Malt nut.
