Trax
THURSDAY 1 October
Drive to Charlottesville VA . Beautiful campus of UVA.
We're playing at Trax which a little like Brownies in NY. It's the home of Dave Matthews
(who calls down to be on the list, then doesn't show). As nice as places like 9:30 are, I
kind of prefer these smaller, divier joints. More connected to the crowd.
The mood's very relaxed today. Our soundcheck even includes Rush, Lynyrd
Skynyrd, and AC/DC tunes.
Afterwards we have some hours free. The others go back to the Super 8. I stay in town and
walk around. Find a little coffee bar full of students watching Sarah and Jay--a
cute, slightly twee emo-indie trio with cello. Very pleasant.
Back for our show which is loose and fun. Old family friend shows up out of the blue. Fun
coincidence.
Bob actually telling stories from the stage !?!?!!? What's this tour coming to? Ladies and
gentlemen, without any further ado........ Morrison.
Late night at the Super 8 watching rockumentaries of Def Leppard and Ozzie with our crew
and the Varnadudes.

Cat's Cradle
FRIDAY 2 October
Up early to do laundry, then stop in C-town so we can drop by Plan 9 records -- an
extremely cool store -- to pick up Copper Blue. We're going to learn
Bob's "Man on the Moon" . Our first Sugar cover!
On to Chapel Hill (Carrboro NC, actually). Another big college town.
Another cool venue--Cat's Cradle. Good sound.
Friends in town coming to the show. Good Greek food watching the Yankees game all alone.
Great show, crowd very responsive for Chapel Hill (on a backstage wall some band has
written:"Remember, if the audience just sits there and stares at you, in Chapel hill
that means they like you."
Post show very fun. dinner with old friends and new. Late night movies on the
pay-per-view. Morning comes hard.
