Cast Albums for Avenue Q, Assassins, Boy From Oz, Wicked, Wonderful Town All Grammy Nommed

The 47th annual Grammy Award nominations were announced Dec. 7, and Broadway musical cast albums are part of the list.

In the field of Musical Show, in the category of Best Musical Show Album, the nominees are:

Assassins, Tommy Krasker, producer; Stephen Sondheim, composer-lyricist; The Broadway Cast Recording With Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Cerveris and Others on the PS Classics label.

Avenue Q - The Musical, Jay David Saks, producer; Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx, composers/lyricists; iriginal Broadway Cast Recording with Rick Lyon, Jennifer Barnhart and others; on the Victor label.

The Boy From Oz, Phil Ramone, producer; Peter Allen and others, composer/lyricist; Original Broadway Cast Recording With Hugh Jackman and Others; on the Decca Broadway label.

Wicked, Stephen Schwartz, producer; Stephen Schwartz, composer/lyricist; Original Broadway Cast Recording With Kristin Chenoweth & Idina Menzel; on the Decca Broadway label.

Wonderful Town, Hugh Fordin, producer; Leonard Bernstein, composer; Betty Comden & Adolph Green, lyricists; The New Broadway Cast Recording With Donna Murphy on the DRG Theater label.

The awards go to album producer(s), and to the lyricist(s) and composer(s) of 51 percent or more of a new score.

The Grammys celebrate excellence in the recording industry.

The above nominees are for recordings released during the eligibility year Oct. 1, 2003 through Sept. 30, 2004.

In the field of Traditional Pop in the category of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album(for albums containing 51 percent or more playing time of vocal tracks), the nominees include "Only You" (Harry Connick) on the Columbia label; "Count Your Blessings" (a disc of holiday songs by Barbara Cook) on the DRG label; "Ultimate Mancini" (Monica Mancini) on Concord Records; "Just For a Thrill" ( Ronnie Milsap) on the Image Music Corp.; "Stardust...The Great American Songbook Volume III" (Rod Stewart) on J Records.

In the category of Best Spoken Word Album For Children (for albums consisting of predominantly spoken word vs. music or song), nominees include "The Best Halloween Ever" (Elaine Stritch on Harper Children's Audio); "Carnival of the Animals" (John Lithgow on Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers); "The Emperor's New Clothes" (Peter Schickele on Newport Classic); "Green Eggs and Ham and Other Servings of Dr. Seuss" (Various Artists, John McElroy, producer, on Listening Library); "The Story of Classical Music" (Marin Alsop on Naxos Audio Books); "The Train They Call the City of New Orleans" (Tom Chapin on Live Oak Media).

In the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, the soundtrack for the film, "De-Lovely" (Columbia/Sony Music Soundtrax), featuring the songs of Cole Porter, was nominated.

Among nominees for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media is "Angels In America," Thomas Newman, composer (Thomas Newman) on the Nonesuch label.

In the category of Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) — an arranger's award for singles or tracks only — the nominees include "Dancing in the Dark," Vince Mendoza, arranger, from Jane Monheit's "Taking A Chance On Love (Sony Classical); "Joy To The World,"Joseph Joubert, Michael McElroy & Buryl Red, arrangers, from Michael McElroy and the Broadway Inspirational Voices With Joseph Joubert's "Great Joy - A Gospel Christmas" (Sh-K-Boom Records); "Over the Rainbow," Victor Vanacore, arranger, from Ray Charles & Johnny Mathis' "Genius Loves Company"(Concord Records/Hear Music); "Summertime," John Clayton & David Foster, arrangers, from Renee Olstead's "Renee Olstead" (143/Reprise Records); "Unchained Melody," Steve Gaboury, Cyndi Lauper & Don Sebesky, arrangers, from Cyndi Lauper's "At Last" (Epic Records).

In the category of Best Opera Recording, the nominees are Monteverdi: L'Orféo (Virgin Classics); Montsalvatge: El Gato Con Botas (Columna Música); Mozart: Le Nozze Di Figaro (Harmonia Mundi); Purcell Dido And Aeneas (Virgin Classics); Scarlatti, A.: Griselda (Harmonia Mundi).
