Michael Cerveris, when asked about how long Assassins
would be running, smiled and said that "it looks as if we're
going to go at least through early October." Will he be staying
through October? "Yes." Although with some time off
for the Sunday in the Park with George concert
with Audra McDonald and Patti Lupone at Ravinia outside of Chicago.
Of Assassins Cerveris said that the musical "doesn't
have a political agenda. To me it represents the essence of American
freedom of speech and democracy." He smiled when asked about
the Republican National Convention that would be coming to the
City in August. He joked, saying ""I'd personally like
to invite every Republican who will be in town to come and see
our show. It's not a Democratic show, it's why as a country we
have produced a group of people who felt that it was necessary
to go to such lengths to achieve happiness.
He mused on the meaning of Assassins positing
"Does our inalienable right to our own happiness...lay the
seeds for potentially disastrous events?"
